Washing Machine Certifications Guide: What CE, RoHS, CB & SASO Actually Prove

Each washing machine certificate explained: what it proves, who issues it, and which export market requires it.

Certificates are not decorations. Each one answers a specific question from a specific authority — and buyers who cannot explain them lose deals at customs.

CE — European conformity

  • Proves: the product meets EU health, safety, and environmental protection directives.
  • Covers: electrical safety (LVD), electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and more.
  • Needed for: European Economic Area; widely accepted as a baseline in the Middle East and Africa.
  • Honest note: CE is a manufacturer declaration backed by test reports — ask to see the reports, not just the mark.

RoHS — hazardous substances

  • Proves: restricted substances (lead, cadmium, mercury, etc.) are below legal limits.
  • Covers: materials and components, verified through supply-chain testing.
  • Needed for: EU; increasingly requested by buyers worldwide as a quality signal.

CB — international safety passport

  • Proves: the product passed IEC safety standards, tested by a recognized lab.
  • Value: CB test reports are mutually recognized in 50+ countries, speeding up local approvals.
  • Needed for: buyers who sell across multiple regions and want one test to unlock many markets.

SASO — Saudi market access

  • Proves: compliance with Saudi technical regulations for electrical safety and performance.
  • Needed for: Saudi Arabia — no SASO, no customs clearance.
  • Note: Saudi requirements update periodically; confirm the current version before shipping.

Energy labels — EER and regional schemes

  • Proves: measured energy and water efficiency under a defined test standard.
  • Different markets, different labels: EU energy label, Middle East EER, and others are not interchangeable.
  • Ask the factory which test standard the rating was measured against.

Key takeaways

  • CE = EU safety baseline; ask for the test reports behind the mark.
  • CB unlocks 50+ countries from one test.
  • SASO is mandatory for Saudi Arabia; energy labels vary by market.
