What is the typical MOQ for washing machines from China?

The industry standard is 1x40HQ container per model, roughly 140–220 units depending on machine dimensions. Mixed-model containers are sometimes negotiable.

Why can't I order 50 units?

Production line changeovers cost the same whether the run is 50 or 500 units, and half-empty containers waste freight. The economics only work at container scale.

Can MOQ be negotiated for a first order?

Sometimes — for example a trial run tied to a tooling project, or a mixed container for an established buyer. Ask during the RFQ stage; factories plan production around committed volumes.

Does MOQ differ between OEM and ODM?

The container logic is the same. OEM projects may have additional minimums tied to tooling amortization, agreed separately.

Washing Machine OEM MOQ Explained: Why 1x40HQ Is the Standard

Why washing machine factories set MOQ at one 40HQ container, what fits inside, and when exceptions are possible.

MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) is the smallest order a factory will run. For washing machines, the industry standard is 1x40HQ container.

This is not arbitrary — it follows directly from how the product is made and shipped.

Why one container

Production lines are set up per model: changeovers cost time regardless of quantity.
Shipping a half-empty container means you pay sea freight for air.
A 40HQ typically holds roughly 140–220 units depending on machine size — the exact count varies by model dimensions.

What "1x40HQ" means for your cash flow

You commit to a full container of one model (or agreed mix) per shipment.
Mixed containers (2–3 models) are sometimes possible — ask during RFQ, not after.
Deposits are typically 30% with balance against B/L copy; confirm in writing.

When MOQ can flex

Repeat buyers with a track record can sometimes split models across containers.
New mold/tooling projects may justify smaller trial runs — negotiated case by case.
Honest note: we don't take orders below our MOQ. A factory that waives MOQ for everyone is either not running real production lines or will fold your order into someone else's — ask which.

Key takeaways

Standard MOQ: 1x40HQ container per model.
MOQ follows production economics, not sales policy.
Mixed models and trial runs are negotiable — ask early.
